To avoid expected weather issues on the originally-scheduled day, the planned interfaith procession and press conference, to present a Declaration of Solidarity to our immigrant partners, will occur on Thursday, March 16 in downtown Asheville.
The Interfaith Procession to the Press Conference will begin from the steps of the First Congregational United Church of Christ (20 Oak Street) in downtown Asheville promptly at 12 noon on Thursday. We will walk from there to the Congregation Beth Ha-Tephila Synagogue (43 N. Liberty Street), and pause outside for a prayer. Latecomers or those who want to walk a shorter distance can join us there at 12:30 p.m.
From the synagogue, we will walk on to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation’s sanctuary for the Press Conference at 1:00 p.m. It will last an hour. There will be simultaneous translation of the press conference for Spanish speakers, who can pick up headsets at the table in the entry way. David LaMotte will provide music and lead us in singing as we march and gather for the press conference.
Thank you to those who have signed the DECLARATION OF SOLIDARITY BY PEOPLE OF FAITH IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA. As of 9:00 a.m. Saturday (3/11), over 1125 faith leaders and members of faith communities have added their names to the list of signers.
Please continue to share the declaration and the links to sign it through emails and at meetings and worship services. Here is the English link: http://bit.ly/2mnoVRw. Here is the Spanish link: http://bit.ly/2lLvAW2. The deadline for signers to be included, as of our press release, is 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15. We hope the initial release will encourage hundreds more to join us in signing this declaration as we move forward.
