The Literacy Council of Buncombe County (LCBC) is seeking an Americorps volunteer to fill a newly-created position as ESOL Assistant, for its English-as-a-Second-Language program. The person will be hired through the Americorps NC LiteracyCorps organization. Among the pre-requisites, the applicant should be: proficient in Spanish (as well as English), at least 17 years of age; recipient of a high school diploma or its equivalent.
The volunteer will receive a living allowance, limited assistance for health insurance premiums, and an education tuition award (the latter upon completion of the one-year assignment). The volunteer will obtain professional training in teaching ESOL, leading volunteers, and community outreach. The experience will enhance the volunteer’s experience in advocacy and organization management, as well as in community service.
